Camy here.
I promise I am not making this up. My dog keeps eating my knitting lint.
I knit when I write, and I knit when I read ebooks on my computer. As a result, I often drop yarn lint on the floor of my office, at the foot of my computer.
Now, I’m not talking about huge hunks of lint. It’s very fine strands that I don’t even see unless I drop to my knees and get my face within a couple inches of the carpet (not a favorite place for my face to be). If I’m standing, I don’t even see the yarn lint on my floor.
However, my dog, being that much closer to the ground than I, readily sees these cute fluffy pieces of something that smells faintly of sheep (I typically knit with wool, especially these days since I’m knitting more lace scarves and shawls).
And my dog, not being averse to eating things from said ground, will quickly lap up these fluffy things like a little serendipitous treat.
Unfortunately, I and Captain Caffeine think the lint clings to her throat sometimes, which makes her cough and hack like she’s going to upchuck a lung.
So, I know many of you have children who, like my dog, are closer to the ground than you are, and who also like the concept of grazing from the carpets.
What do you do to keep them from eating anything they see? I am in earnest here. Aside from vacuuming my carpet every hour, I don’t know what to do!
